The Guide is not a tutorial on the game, or a walk-through of the levels except for one sample. (For a walk-through, or details on achievements, try here.) To learn how to play, install the game and view the tutorial. This article assumes you already know how to play, but want to play better.
The guide is being updated as new strategies are developed. I have so far reached Level 275 and I have completed all of the Awards. FYI, nothing special happens when you gain the 20th and final award.
Unlike typical logic games, there is no “solution” to Microsoft Treasure Hunt. You are presented with scenarios where it is impossible to reason out there the traps are. The board as presented is ambiguous. You have to use one of the tools provided, maps, picks and dynamite to move forward, or you can guess.
I have tried to present easy-to-apply rules to discover the traps and safe spots. There are some situations where I have not discovered a simple solution, ones where I have to resort to brute force examination of all the possible combinations, something tedious and error prone. I’m still looking for a breakthrough in those cases.
I can’t make it to level 20. I need to be able to carry more dynamite cause I can only carry 6. I keep getting options for bigger pickaxes belts or map tubes. What should I do?
how to save the game
just started playing how do you save game and move forward without being sent back to level 1 again
Judy’s answer doesn’t fix it for all (me included). The only way I’ve found around it is when you get close to the end of the level (where the door to next level is) is to take of full screen or even make it less than maximized, then click and drag the right screen edge left as far as you can. This will enable you to see the cut off portion of the screen and play out the level. Not perfect but it does work.
At computer start up screen,
go to Settings,
System,
Scale & Layout,
Change size of text,
Reduce from recommended 125% to 100%,
Log out,
Log in,
Your problem will be fixed!
I play Microsoft treasure hunt OFTEN and enjoy the breath of the challenge. but, I cant figure out how to make the blank right side of game screen to show FULL game play. this distraction has driven off many folks from continued game play. the upper levels are mind-thinking and this distraction is to much game consuming. therefore, they no longer play the game. is this an Windows 10 problem or is it a money upgrade (NO ADS) incentive? I don’t know which, but I do know the frustration of common and fair game play. ITS GOOD TO BE THE KING. windows 10, ask them to correct and connect to US.
I personally have never seen the issue and I’ve played both on desktop and tablet Windows 10 systems. There are some suggestions left in comments to this article:

I am at level 164 and was hoping that the end was near?
You made it to 266 Wow!
When does it end and you win the game? ever?
I got to Level 275 and then died. I’ve not seen any report of someone finishing the game.
I believe it goes to 1,000. Somewhere I saw a Microsoft achievement compilation that said I was 266/1000. I haven’t been able to find it again,
