I suggest a new political alignment in the US, and perhaps the Bush branch of the Republican Party is already trying to do this.
Rather than having Conservatives vs Liberals, how about the “moderates” vs the “Yahoos”?
Over the last 30 years, we’ve seen a remarkable shift from a “solid south” for the Democrats to the “solid south” for the Republicans, with various politicians, like Stromm Thurmond who expouse Yahoo values switching parties.
There’s hardly anything recognizably “conservative” in the current Republican party with the largest deficit in the county’s history looming and the abandonment of the concept of personal responsibility and morality (except in a few narrow areas). I think moderate Republicans would have a clearer conscience elsewhere.
